Re: FTP downloading |
The suggestion that's worked for me is the DownThemAll plugin for Firefox. One click will grab you all of the flac/shn/md5/ffp's once you have the filters set up correctly. Works great!

Re: FTP downloading |
awesome, thats what ive been looking for. i dont mind change, change is inevitable. but its great when i can go to smartftp and right-click grab all the .flac files, then the md5 and text, three clicks and im done. it just seems more tedious to go to the http site, right click all 40+ files on a 1.5gig show, manually click save for each one. how is that a better setup? i would think if they would take away the ftp access, they would automatically set up a lossless zip file. they take the time to create one during upload for vbr mp3's and the like, why not for the lossless? i guess the file size must be the issue, for i cannot see one other than that. thanks for the info, and if anyone from the archive can lay it on me about the possibility of a .flac/.shn zip on the details page, it would be most appreciated! thanks again to all, keith k.

Re: FTP downloading |
Another suggestion would be to implement some kind of a java download manager where you'd only need one click to download all the flac files, fingerprints and text. for people who are somewhat technical, downloaditall is fine but many people out there are clueless on how to get going.

Re: FTP downloading |
Actually, my objections to downloadthemall come from being
too technical. It's not scriptable and impossible to run from a remote terminal session (remote
terminal, not remote desktop--RDP uses far too much bandwidth). This means (among many other problems), that I can no longer easily kick off a download while I'm at work and have it waiting for me when I get home.
I have managed to use wget with a unix command-line for-loop, but it was a serious PITA. Dumping FTP is the worst thing the Archive has done in a long time IMO.

Re: FTP downloading |
THANK YOU! thats all i was getting at. why remove the simplist way of getting audio, no add-ons or plug-ins necessary. ive uploaded 40+ shows and downloaded hundreds of them, so i guess im partial to as lossless a copy as possible. looks like they want to go all mp3 ect. i downloaded a "grab" program, which has a file max on trial mode which sux, but it does the SAME THING AS THE FTP DID. $h!t happens i guess...
